The Col de Joux Plane is not a high mountain pass but has featured in 12 Tour de France routes. Linking the towns of Samoens and Morzine it tops out at 1700m.

Climbing on narrow roads through mountain villages and farms from Samoens, the road has less switchbacks than most. Towards the top you get outstanding views back over Samoens and the Giffre Valley.

At the top there's a small lake before you change valleys and descend under the chairlifts at the top of the Les Gets ski and bike park, standing abandoned in spring and autumn.

The final descent under the Pointe de Nyon takes you into Morzine.
